Day 10 and 11: Great Barrier Reef and Beach day
Day 10: Great Barrier Reef
The first thing we accomplished in Cairns was eating some oysters, the second was surviving a choppy boat ride out to Green Island, and the third was snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef.

Which called for some standard reef selfies, above water and...

Mandy had the best under water spotting of the day, a sting ray.

She also won best over water spotting, a reef shark... That big guy was out and about with us the whole time! Oh and you see that hat lying next to th me shark, yes that is the silly Swede’s.

While the Swede was busy losing his hat, Kelly and I hired some chairs and hung out on the beach admiring the crystal blue waters around the reef.

The ride out was pretty miserable for a couple of us, but with a properly chosen seat on the boat.... everyone survived without a barf bag!

We celebrated with a drink and a snack right on the water.

Day 11: Beach Hopping

And then a walk on the beach. We read all the warnings and decided we probably didn’t want to get in the water. Stingers and crocodiles were quite the deterrents. Although they did have vinegar on the ready to avoid anyone having to pee on anyone else.
We lucked out and didn’t have to hire these chairs.

On to the next beach, Trinity Beach. This beach came with two awesome animal sightings. First, a field full of wallabies, thought maybe they were kangaroos...

Then, some purely white parrots with a little yellow Mohawk. They squawked like a velociraptor and for some reason congregated pretty close to us right as we walked by.

It was another beautiful beach.
We didn’t get out at the last beach, Holloway’s. But it was more of a residential area and I bet it was a nice tourist free for the locals, so we didn’t ruin that for them.

Green Island was an interesting little escape out to snorkel the reef. It was an awesome experience.

Day 11: Beach Hopping
We weren’t sure which of the to Cairns beaches we wanted to check out today, so we tried out three. First beach, Palm Cove. A lovely lunch and cocktail at the Chill Spot.

Finally, Johan ended the day with an adventurous dinner. The hop, swim, and a jump: a combo platter of kangaroo, crocodile, and barracundi.
